Doc Bailey's leather Black
« on: April 21, 2009, 10:42:13 AM »
I can not review this on in the review section due to my own rules. I just wanted to share about this stuff. I have been using it for years. I first saw it at the Harley Owners Group National's, it was being demo'd in the Harley pavillion, that is quite unusual as Harley will only let approved products be demo'd in there pavillion. Out of all the products available for a Harley there are a mere 27 that actually are approved by Harley. Doc Bailey's is one of them, and strangely enough so is a truely wonderful massage chair I have but I digress. If you walk into the show wearing black leather boots, nobody does that at a Harley event, they will ask you to put the stuff on your boots. They did mine and it made a huge improvemnet and waterproofed them too. This stuff is not cheap but you only need a very small amount, I have had the same bottle at least 4 years and use it quite a bit. It has dye in it so it will make the leather blacker, kind of like shoe polish for you seats, it softens and protects. I will post  a review below that is from the owner of one of the best leather companies I know of, I have a lot of leather gear from Fox Creek leather, top quality stuff, just in case you need a coat to put the Doc Bailey's on.

From the guys at Fox Creek leather

This stuff is basically magic. When I used to sell leather on the road a guy from Doc Bailey's tried to hustle me and I was obviously busy and skeptical. He cut the BS and said: "Do you have anything that's ruined." That was kind of like asking Evel Knievel where it hurts. I gave him a set of saddle bags that had been wincing under the wheel of a 500 lb leather rack for 700 miles in the trailer. He puts a little Doc Bailey's on it and it's NEW.

From that moment on no road crew ever went out without two bottles of Doc Bailey's Leather Black. This is what it says on the back of the bottle, but really - it's just magic. The Original Doc Bailey's Leather Black actually contains a dye pigment that restores lost color. It also cleans, nourishes and waterproofs. Doc Bailey's Leather Black gently cleans leather with specially formulated detergents which actually lift dirt out, opening the pores of the leather allowing the lanolin oil to flow into the leather nourishing and softening it. Doc Bailey's Leather Black actually penetrates deep into the leather to restore lost color. As a finishing touch, special waxes lock the color in which protects and waterproofs your leather.

Thanks for the review, lil goat. This is good for all leather but it sounds like it might be really good for my steering wheel. I get little scratches from my jewelry or nails or something. I was thinking of using shoe polish but this sounds better.

Here's a place you can get it for $14.99. Not bad.

That's what I fix my steering wheel with as a matter of fact, didn't think of it until you mentioned it. It will water proof your black shoes too. They make one with out the balck dye in it but I haven't ordered any yet. I got the bottle I have at the bike show, paid I think $20 but it came with an extra sponge lol.

It sounds a lot like "Leather Luster" that I tried back in my early carrer before they came out with the brown boots.  The difference being Leather Luster was two products. One cleaner, One restorer.  I tried it once then went back to spit shining with Kangaroo Polish from Korea. The Leather Luster dries to a hard finish and had a tendancy to flake off the flexible parts of the boots.

Any flaking with your stuff?

I have never had it flake and there is little wax in it, it is mostly lanolin and dye in the black version, it leaves a slight luster if you buff it but no real shine. It doesn't soften as much as Lexol and it waterproofs really well as a side benefit. I need to do an order and do my tires, it is supposed to prevent dry rot. Did you know if you do not drive your car the tires can dry rot on the rims, when the car is driven the action of the tires forces the natural rubber oils out and lubricates the rubber, mine sit in the shed for half a year depending on whats on the car. I use it on my leather coats with no issue as well and that really flexes a lot.
